In The News: Drew Barrymore, Sadie Frost, Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton, Kourtney Kardashian

Drew Barrymore has “freak-outs” about being in a long-distance relationship.

The actress – who refuses to confirm reports she has reunited with on/off boyfriend Justin Long – admits she struggles to maintain a romance with someone she hardly ever sees, and feels like she is in a “weird purgatory”.

When asked how she finds long-distance relationships, she explained: “I’ve just sort of freaked out on someone. Just been like, ‘I never see you, we’re not talking enough.’ The worst part of being single is actually being along, but I don’t have the benefit of having any help because I’m in a relationship with a person I never see so I think sometimes I just feel like I’m in a weird purgatory. And I have definitely had my freak-outs about that.”

Because of these moments of insecurity, Drew has made her own “time-out cards” to help her cope with the highs and lows of love, and to help her refrain from lashing out at Justin.

She explained to Stylist magazine: “I’ve learnt to go and take five minutes. Just go and take a breath and maybe use little time-out cards. I actually made some of my own, like, ‘I love you’, ‘I need a minute’, ‘Five minutes’. You might have learnt something different after you have gone into the other room and breathed deeply for a moment.”

Sadie Frost was surprised when Jude Law took legal action against her autobiography.

The 45-year-old star had discussed the contents of ‘Crazy Days’ with her former spouse and was amazed when he went to drastic lengths to have various details of their six-year marriage – which ended in 2003 – removed from the tome.

She said: “Jude had read some of the book, we’d discussed it, he’d been supportive of me writing it the whole way along.
“There were some things where he said, ‘You know what Sadie, maybe you don’t need to go into depth there,’ and I listened to him. There were a couple of things… I didn’t think it would get that far. I thought we were resolving it through normal communication. But I think we were both nervous of what the other person thought.”

Despite Jude’s legal action, Sadie – who has children Rafferty, 13, Iris, nine and seven-year-old Rudy -with the actor, as well as son Finlay, 19, with first spouse Gary Kemp – insists there is no tension between them.

She told Grazia magazine: “We were talking on the phone day and night about what the children were eating and what they were doing for their summer holidays while this was going on. They were two completely separate issues. If he was trying to injunct me because he hated the whole thing, that would have been different, but it wasn’t like that. I listened to his points and we changed them and they were very minor.”

Mel Gibson is to be interviewed by police for a third time.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is reportedly set to investigate the ’Braveheart’ star’s extortion claim against his former partner Oksana Grigorieva.

The 54-year-old actor – who has been accused of domestic violence against the Russian singer – first made the claims in July, when he met with detectives to discuss how the 40-year-old beauty had tried to get money from him.

According to gossip website TMZ, the sheriff’s department is now keen to interview the star for a third time, suggesting they are taking the extortion claim seriously.

It is believed the case is at least two weeks away from completion when it will be referred on to the district attorney, who is to make the final decision on whether Oksana will be charged with extortion and Mel with domestic violence.

The Hollywood star has claimed his former girlfriend – with whom he has ten-month-old daughter Lucia – only released explosive audio tapes documenting their arguments and the alleged attacks after he refused her demands for cash.

In addition to the domestic battery charges Mel faces, he is also part of an investigation by the Department of Children and Family Services.

Paris Hilton has been warned to “give up the drugs”.

The party-loving socialite – who could face up to four years in prison after being charged with cocaine possession on Tuesday (31.08.10) – has been given a word of advice by rocker Rod Stewart.

The ‘Maggie May’ hitmaker – whose daughter Kimberley was once a close friend of the heiress – said: “She’s a lovely girl. She was friends with Kimberley but I don’t think they see each other anymore. I’ve always found her tremendously polite and very respectful, but, you know, it’s time to move on perhaps, give up the drugs.

“There’s other things, you don’t need them. She’s a beautiful girl. We’ve all done it, but I’ve never been a druggie sort of person so I’ve always been against it.”

Paris was found with 0.8 grams of the illegal drug in her handbag when she and boyfriend Cy Waits were stopped and searched by police in Las Vegas on Friday night (27.08.10).

Despite his warning, Rod – who announced he is expecting his second child with 39-year-old wife Penny Lancaster last month – admitted he has a liberal attitude towards parenting his seven children.

The 65-year-old singer added to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “The worst thing you can do as a parent is put your foot down and say no. I think you’ve got to say, ‘I know you want to do it, let’s talk about it’. If you say no they’re going to do it anyway, so just give them the advice from your experiences and what’s happened to your friends and pass it on.”

Rod’s seven children are Kimberley, 30, and Sean, 29, with his by first wife Alana Hamilton. He also has Ruby, 23, by model Kelly Emberg and Renee, 18, and Liam, 15, by his second wife Rachel Hunter.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick are “doing well”.

The socialite – who has an eight-month-old son Mason with the star – has been urged by fans to call time on the couple’s relationship after Scott was seen punching a wall so hard he needed surgery on her TV show ‘Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami’.

However, Kourtney’s sister Kim has dispelled rumours the pair have split for good, claiming they have a healthy relationship.

She told US magazine: “Kourtney and Scott are not separated. They are actually doing really well.”
Since the shocking footage aired, Scott has attended a rehabilitation centre to be treated for “alcohol use and psychological issues”.
Kourtney, 31, recently admitted she finds it difficult to follow the advice of fans who want her to end the couple’s on/off relationship for good, as she wants to do what is “best for her family”.

She explained: “The other day… Scott and I were walking down the street in New York and this lady’s like, ‘Kourtney! I love you!’ And then she’s like, ‘Dump him!’ “Scott and I were just like smiling and I was like, ‘OK, I’ll do it for you.’ And then I was like, ‘Obviously I have to do what’s best for me and my family.”
